Position Overview The R&D Chemist is a key member of the R&D Team, primarily supporting the Coatings, Paint, and Construction markets. This role involves hands-on sample preparation, characterization, and performance testing, with a focus on providing technical support to the Sales Coating team. Additionally, the R&D Chemist also provides analytical support to R&D, QC/Production, and customers. This position reports to the Director of Technology.

Key Responsibilities

Coatings Project Support (~90%)

    • Tests formulations and products for Coatings, Paints, and related applications.
    • Conducts lab bench work for product development, including preparation, characterization, and testing of polymer samples.
    • Collaborates with the Sales Coating team to evaluate and optimize recipes for various applications.
    • Supports business initiatives by communicating product capabilities and assisting in resolving customer issues.
    • Scales up new products from laboratory to full commercialization.
    • Maintains organized lab data and provides test reports as required.

Analytical Support (~10%)

    • Literature searches to acquire knowledge and develop testing methods.
    • Provides analytical support to R&D, QC/Production, and customers.
    • Coordinates with other technical departments for the use of lab and analytical equipment.
    • Collaborates with QC and Manufacturing groups to resolve customer and production issues.

Technical Skills and Expertise

    • Proficiency in chemistry concepts related to the formulation, characterization, and testing of water-based polymers for coating applications.
    • Knowledge of formulation components-performance properties interactions is required.
    • Experience with analytical instrumentation techniques (GC, FTIR, particle size analysis, DSC, DMA, rheology) is a plus but not required.
    • Ability to safely handle various raw materials and water-based polymer chemistries, including flammables and solvents.
    • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
    • Knowledge of statistical techniques and design of experiments methods.

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or any other related field (Chemical Engineer, Material Science) preferred, but will consider a combination of education and direct coatings or formulation experience.
    • 2 years of lab experience in water-based coating formulation and applications.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Open-minded, creative, and innovative.

Work Environment

    • Conducts bench activities such as sample preparation, characterization, and testing.
    • Maintains a clean and safe laboratory environment in accordance with OSHA, EPA, and STI specific guidelines.
    • Promotes safety and best work practices.
    • Less than 5% of domestic travel to customers, trade shows, and industry events.

    • The R&D Chemist also has responsibilities to participate in other teams. Currently is part of the Safety Committee and STI’s Internal Audit team.

POSITION: ACCOUNT MANAGER (Full Time/Remote)

Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, CREMER North America L.P. coordinates the storage, processing, packaging, transportation and delivery of oleochemical products.

Key Responsibilities (Summary)

Reporting directly to the Sales Manager, the Account Manager is responsible for developing new customer relationships and managing oleochemical sales and services of Cremer North America business products.


Position Requirements

Education:

B.A. or B.S degree in a Business-related or STEM related discipline or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Experience:

    • At least 2 to 3 years of experience in a marketing or sales position.
    • Must reside with assigned geographic region.
      Territory could be located in the following regions: Northeast / Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Southeast or West
    • Working knowledge of oleo chemical products and chemical services, such as flaking and pastilles.
    • Travel for customer visits within the assigned territory 3 – 4 days per week; up to 3-4 weeks per month.  

Performance Measures and Standards

    • Identify, develop, and grow new opportunities and new customers within assigned sales territory.
    • Grow overall sales in the assigned territory.
    • Use CRM, sales forecasting and strategic planning to ensure the sales and profitability of products, lines, or services.  As well as analyzing business developments and monitoring market trends.
    • Negotiate Prices and terms of sales with new and existing customers.
    • Engage with all existing customers in assigned territory.
    • Understand Customers and prospect buying centers.
    • Participate in all local and regional bodies associated with relevant industry associations.  
      Examples include (but not limited to) Personal Care, Society of Tribology and Lubricant Engineering, Cleaning Industry, Food, and Pharma.
    • Coordinate or participate in promotional activities or trade shows, working with developers, advertisers, or production managers, to market products or services.
    • Consult with the Sales Manager and Business Managers to gain advice regarding the types of products or services expected to be in demand.
    • Using all sources available identify prospects.  Examples (but not limited to the following) trade associations, output from marketing campaigns, contacts at conferences, asking customers for leads, and reference old customers.
    • Contact all leads and understand their needs and buying center and develop and close on new opportunities for Cremer North America.    
    • Collaborate with colleagues to exchange information, such as selling strategies or marketing information.
    • Answer customers’ questions about products, prices, availability, or credit terms.
    • Quote prices, credit terms, or other bid specifications.
    • Emphasize product features based on analyses of customers’ needs and on technical knowledge of product capabilities and limitations.
    • Diligently maintain accurate and current customer records, using automated systems, including but not limited to CRM system.
    • Prepare sales contracts for orders obtained and submit orders for processing.
    • Select the correct products or assist customers in making product selections, based on customers’ needs, product specifications, and applicable regulations.
    • In your absence you are responsible to ensure that the tasks assigned to the absentee is adequately covered by them or trained personnel
    • Share customer information/product risk information, including:
      • SDSs
      • Brochures
      • Specifications
      • Appropriate end uses and safety hazards
      • Other requests as appropriate
    • Follow all the rules and guidelines of Cremer NA including but not limited to product safety and how customers and prospects abide by Cremer NA’s safety expectations.
      •  Initiate management of change (MOC) for new products:
        Adhere to all Environmental, Health, Safety, Security Requirements covered under Local State and Federal Regulations
      • Follow all RC14001 guiding principles, policies, procedures and other requirements

POSITION: WATER-BASED ADHESIVES DEVELOPMENT CHEMIST/SCIENTIST

We are seeking a talented Water-Based Adhesives Development Scientist to join our R&D team, drive the development of novel water-based adhesives, and support our expanding customer base.

Job Summary

The Water-Based Adhesives Development Chemist/Scientist will be responsible for designing, formulating, and testing water-based adhesive systems to meet customer requirements and industry standards. This role involves hands-on laboratory work, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and a focus on advancing high-performance adhesive solutions. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, creativity, and a passion for innovation to support our mission of delivering differentiated bonding technologies.   

Key Responsibilities

    • Formulation Development: Design and develop water-based adhesive formulations (e.g., emulsions, dispersions, or polymer-based systems) for applications in packaging, converting, building and construction, automotive, or other industries.
    • Testing & Analysis: Conduct physical and chemical testing (e.g., viscosity, peel strength, shear strength, tack, stability) to evaluate adhesive performance and ensure compliance with specifications.
    • Innovation:  Incorporate sustainable and reliable materials and processes into adhesive development, ensuring robust performance and supply resiliency to our customers and markets
    • Project Management: Lead or support R&D projects from concept to commercialization, including scale-up from lab to production.
    • Collaboration: Work closely with sales, procurement , and manufacturing teams to translate customer needs into viable adhesive solutions.
    • Technical Support: Provide expertise to customers and internal teams, troubleshooting issues and optimizing adhesive performance for specific applications.
    • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of formulations, test results, and project progress; prepare technical reports and presentations for stakeholders.
    • Industry Awareness: Stay current on advancements in water-based adhesive technologies, raw materials, and regulatory requirements (e.g., REACH, EPA standards).

Qualifications:

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a related field.
    • Experience: 3-5+ years of experience in adhesive formulation, with a focus on water-based systems (experience with PVA, VAE, acrylics, or polyurethane dispersions is a plus).

Technical Skills: 

    • Proficiency in WB adhesive chemistries.
    • Hands-on experience with lab equipment (e.g., rheometers, tensile testers, coating applicators).
    • Knowledge of adhesive testing standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO).

Soft Skills:

    • Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Preferred Experience: 

    • Prior work in industries such as packaging, converting, construction, or automotive adhesives.
    • Experience scaling formulations from lab to pilot or production environments.
