There are several classes of tougheners for structural adhesives. The reactive toughener is such a class that has found widespread acceptance in structural adhesive applications such as the aerospace, automotive, and marine markets. These industries have learned and applied the benefits of cost, time, weight, performance, and aesthetic improvements. One of the remaining challenges and drawbacks for reactive tougheners however is viscosity which can affect dispersive time. Recent developments have yielded low viscosity epoxy and acrylic functionalized tougheners without the necessity of diluents or VOCs. A description of these reactive siloxane based tougheners and the effect on enhancing mechanical properties will be discussed during this webinar.

Learning Objective:

  1. Typical structural adhesives markets
  2. Applications and advantages of structural adhesives
  3. Standard reactive tougheners for structural adhesives
  4. New technologies designed to enhance toughening properties and create ease of handling

Agenda

  1. Advantages of structural adhesives
  2. Types of structural adhesives and markets
  3. Selection of appropriate adhesive
  4. Modifier and toughener systems
  5. New toughener technologies and benefits of use
