Job Description:
Seeking a Chemical / Materials Engineer– Sealants & Firestop supports the development, qualification, and ongoing production of STI’s sealant portfolio (including SSS, LCI, LC, AS Spray, and related products).
This role acts as a technical link between Engineering, Quality, suppliers, and toll manufacturers to ensure products remain compliant, manufacturable, and consistent in performance. The position focuses on practical execution, supporting day-to-day needs across EHS, materials, and manufacturing coordination.
This is a hybrid role based at our Burlington or Somerville, NJ locations, with an expectation of four days per week in the office; candidates may work from the location closest to them.
Responsibilities:
Technical Support
-
- Provide day-to-day technical support for sealant products.
- Support Engineering Services requests with timely responses
- Assist in troubleshooting field and product-related issues
EHS & Regulatory Support
-
- Support SDS creation, updates, and global compliance requirements
- Assist with RoHS, REACH, Prop 65, and WHMIS requirements
- Support ISO-related EHS processes and documentation
- Leverage supplier data to maintain efficient and audit-ready documentation
Supplier & Materials Management

- Evaluate raw materials for performance, compliance, and compatibility
- Support material substitutions and obsolescence mitigation
- Interface with chemical suppliers on technical questions and documentation
Toll Manufacturing Support

- Act as technical contact for toll manufacturers (e.g., Bostik)
- Support scale-up, batch issues, and process troubleshooting
- Coordinate implementation of formulation and specification changes
- Align lab, quality, and production expectations
Product Quality & Testing

- Support testing activities (viscosity, physical properties, performance)
- Assist with NCRs, CAPAs, and root cause investigations
- Review and interpret test data to support product decisions
Documentation & Process Support

- Maintain practical, audit-ready technical documentation
- Support development of risk registers and SOPs
- Ensure processes reflect actual practice and avoid over-documentation
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or related field
Experience
-
- 3–5 years experience in sealants, adhesives, coatings, or construction materials
- Experience supporting manufacturing or tolling environments
- Familiarity with SDS/regulatory requirements preferred
- Experience in product development, testing, or quality support preferred

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Innovation & Product Development
- Define and execute customer-based innovation strategies to commercialize differentiated products, improve existing products, and solve complex material related challenges in line with division objectives.
