ABOUT ASC | Growing the Industry

Adhesive CAD Symbol

ASC is working to create a symbol that will enable engineers to graphically represent an adhesive in computer-aided design (CAD) drawings (currently designers must incorporate comments on an adhesive in the "notes" section of their drawings). The symbol is modeled after the ANSI weld symbol and features similar elements. ASC is working with ASTM International, one of the largest voluntary standards development organizations in the world, to develop a new internationally recognized standard, which the Council feels will increase its acceptance by the design-engineering community worldwide.

Status:
On September 16, ASC was notified by ASTM that the CAD symbol ballot was uanimously approved by the D14 Adhesives Committee. It is now an official global ASTM standard. ASC will approve the final ASTM draft in the coming weeks. Once this is done, ASC will commission the development of an electronic file which can be downloaded and used in various CAD software packages. We have already contacted with a third party to complete this work.
